About CT Imaging

What Is a CT Scan?

Computed Tomography (CT) uses X-rays and advanced computer processing to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body. CT is fast, highly detailed, and especially effective for imaging internal organs, bones, and blood vessels in clinical and diagnostic settings.

Chest & Lung Evaluation
CT chest imaging assesses pulmonary conditions, infections, masses, and vascular abnormalities with high speed and resolution.
Abdominal & Pelvic Organs
CT provides detailed imaging of the liver, pancreas, kidneys, bowel, and pelvic organs, including assessment for stones, tumours, and other conditions.
Bone & Skeletal Structures
CT clearly depicts fractures, spinal conditions, bone lesions, and skeletal anatomy with greater detail than standard X-Ray.
Vascular & Angiography
CT Angiography (CTA) evaluates blood vessels throughout the body, including coronary arteries and aorta, with contrast enhancement.
Head & Neurological
CT head scans are used to evaluate trauma, stroke, bleeding, and other neurological concerns quickly and accurately.
Fast & Detailed Results
CT scans are completed quickly — often in a matter of minutes — making them valuable in both routine diagnostic and clinical settings.
What to Expect

Your CT Appointment & How to Prepare

011
Arrival & Check-In
Arrive with your referral and health card. Inform our team of any allergies, medications, or prior reactions to contrast material.
022
Preparation
Some CT exams require fasting or contrast material. Follow any preparation instructions provided when your appointment was booked. Our staff will guide you through the process on arrival.
033
The Scan
You will lie on a motorized table that moves through the CT scanner. The scanner is open on both ends and the scan takes only a few minutes. You may be asked to hold your breath briefly.
044
Done & Discharged
Most CT exams require no recovery time. If contrast was used, you may be asked to remain briefly for observation. Results go to your referring physician.

Safety & Screening

CT Contrast & Safety Screening

Some CT exams use contrast material to enhance image detail. Let our team know if any of the following apply to you before your appointment.

Contrast Allergies
Let us know about any known allergies to iodine-based contrast material or previous reactions during imaging.
Kidney Function
Contrast-enhanced CT requires healthy kidney function. We may ask about kidney history or recent bloodwork beforehand.
Diabetes Medication
If you take metformin, let our team know — it may need to be paused around your contrast CT exam.
Pregnancy
Let us know if you are or may be pregnant so our team can determine if any additional precautions are needed.
Thyroid Conditions
Certain contrast agents can affect thyroid function. Let us know about any thyroid conditions beforehand.
Radiation Awareness
CT uses a small dose of ionizing radiation. Our team follows strict protocols to keep every dose as low as reasonably achievable.

This is general information only and does not replace the safety screening completed with our team before your appointment.
