Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic imaging exam that uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency waves to produce detailed images of structures inside the body. MRI is particularly useful for evaluating soft tissues, joints, the brain, spine, and internal organs.
MRI does not use ionizing radiation and provides high-resolution images that assist physicians in diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing care.
During your MRI exam, you will lie on a padded table that moves into the MRI scanner. It is important to remain still while images are being acquired to ensure image quality. The scanner produces loud tapping or knocking sounds during the exam, and hearing protection will be provided.
MRI exams are painless. Some patients may experience a feeling of confinement, and our staff will review the procedure with you beforehand and maintain communication throughout the exam.
